The Public Safety Communications Center of Dane County provides countywide 911 emergency call-taking services. The County 911 Center provides dispatching and centralized communications services for the Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Madison Police and Fire Departments as well as 21 local law enforcement agencies. The 911 Center also provides communications and dispatching services to 26 local fire departments and 21 local EMS agencies.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Dane County Public Safety Communications Department is to provide a fast, effective communications link between the citizens of Dane County requesting public safety services and the public safety agencies charged with providing emergency and non-emergency services to those citizens.

Emergency Medical Dispatchers & Aspirin for Heart Attack Symptoms – One Year Later

There is strong evidence showing that immediate aspirin therapy may reduce heart damage in
heart attack (AMI) patients who are 16 years old or older. Dr. Paul Stiegler, 9-1-1’s Medical
Director has approved the use of a nationally-recognized aspirin protocol.
The National Academies of Emergency Dispatch studies show that early administration of aspirin
benefits more patients than it may compromise.

Dispatchers won't recommend aspirin to patients if: they are not alert, are under 16 years old, have had an allergic reaction to aspirin before or if there's a possibility they suffer from internal bleeding.
Rarely do dispatchers advise patients to take anything before paramedics arrive, but since aspirin administration was added to our protocol just one year ago, many of the 2,800 patients who reported heart attack symptoms have been advised to take aspirin.
