The Public Safety Communications Center of Dane County provides countywide 911 emergency call-taking services. The County 911 Center provides dispatching and centralized communications services for the Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Madison Police and Fire Departments as well as 21 local law enforcement agencies. The 911 Center also provides communications and dispatching services to 26 local fire departments and 21 local EMS agencies.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Dane County Public Safety Communications Department is to provide a fast, effective communications link between the citizens of Dane County requesting public safety services and the public safety agencies charged with providing emergency and non-emergency services to those citizens.

Call Volume

During 2007, the center handled 519,852 incoming calls. Of these calls, 161,348 were calls to the 911 number. The other 358,504 incoming calls were to lower priority seven‑digit numbers like requests for police non-emergency services, information on warrants or after-hours calls to area police stations.

During that year, 171,551 law enforcement incidents were created in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.

Also during 2007, 45,656 fire and emergency medical incidents were handled countywide.
